Asset Protection

Asset Protection is becoming essential in today’s litigious society. Law suits are filed in torrents daily by creditors, customers, spouses, business partners, competitors, government agencies – anyone left out? Oh yes there have been successful suits filed by burglars and robbers against innocent householders and shop proprietors who over zealously protected their property home and family.

Who do you turn to for Asset Protection? The answer to that is difficult. Most professionals who work in big offices and claim to be one of the “BIG” 3, 4, 5,6 or 7 firms are no more than product peddlers. Most of their clients, who have no idea about bulletproof protection of assets, are too easily prey for the slick suited salesmen with smarmy sweaty palms purveying trusts, international business companies and offshore bank accounts. None of these devices can be effective as assets protectors once the person seeking protection has their name recorded in company registers or as signatories on bank accounts.

Thousands of US citizens who secreted funds offshore have been uncovered in raids on banks such as UBS. And sweetheart deals have been trotted out by government agencies to grant immunity for the banks – who marketed the schemes to their slow witted customers. The big name firms of accountants and lawyers also have marketed various tax haven schemes as asset protection programs – selling devices, trusts and incorporation services. In every instance the professionals earned their fees by selling products which customers were led to believe would protect their assets.

The so-called professionals have little practical experience in assisting and managing assets for protection for their clients. All they have managed to do in selling them ineffective off the shelf products is to embroil their clients in legal challenges by their respective domestic governments. Proper Asset Protection is a management process and can not be provided merely through the distribution of products. Laws change around the world, the economy alters and government policies are not immutable. Buying a product off a main street or suburban attorney or accountant instead of hiring an experienced protection manager is a recipe for disaster.

Finding a qualified experienced Asset Protection specialist is not easy as the best ones have a low profile for obvious reasons.
